Imp-assistant[ | ]
Like regular imps, an imp-assistant will also collect items one by one, and place them in the stockpile. However it will do it in a much more effective way:
- it needs no mana to exist or to work
- it has no limit to the total number of items it can carry in its life span
- it doesn't need to be "recasted" (once the house is placed, it appears, and only goes away if the house is removed)
- instead of flying, it will always teleport itself directly to the desired place
- it can collect an item dropped very far away from the base in a couple of seconds
- walls won't prevent it from grabbing items located in enclosed areas.
Imp-assistants are slightly bigger than regular imps.
Not exactly a pet[ | ]
An imp-assistant does count for the maximum number of pets dwarfs are allowed to have, but it behaves quite differently from other pets.
- Once its house is removed, it doesn't keep wandering around the world, but it simply disappears.
- It doesn't engage in battles.
- It cannot be harmed by any hostile creatures.
- As it doesn't need to regenerate health, it only sleeps if it's idling.
- It doesn't interact with dwarfs.
Effectiveness[ | ]
As a tier 3 (tech wise) item, the imp's house can be accessed relatively early in campaigns and other Tech Tree mode games. This means that those couple of items left behind in the wilderness after a dwarf's portal is closed can be collected without exposing dwarfs to danger, and without spending additional mana.
However, by tier 7 in the tech tree, once the player starts using the imps summon spell, the imp-assistant will most of the time remain sleepy. At that moment, replacing the imp's house with one of the defensive pet houses may become a good option.
